About Us

We help teens, families, and schools close the gap between graduation and real life.

How We Support the Journey to Adulthood

At The First Time Adult, we believe that no teen should have to navigate the journey into adulthood alone. Whether you’re a teen stepping into independence or a parent or educator guiding the way, we’re here to walk alongside you, offering the tools, support, and guidance you need to build a successful future, together.

Our work is grounded in The A.D.U.L.T. Readiness Pathway™ (TARP), a comprehensive development blueprint designed to support teens ages 14-24. Rooted in research, lived experience, and real youth voices. TARP helps educators, parents, and community leaders prepare young people for the realities of adulthood in today’s world.

The First Time Adult™

Foundational guidance for teens and families covering money, independence, decision-making, and the real-life skills school doesn’t teach.

Our Mission: Guiding the Path to Adulthood

We exist to empower teens, parents, and educators with the resources and skills needed to thrive during one of life's biggest transitions: the path to adulthood.

Inspired by our book, The First Time Adult was founded on the belief that preparing for adulthood is a shared journey, and we aim to make that journey smoother, more confident, and filled with possibilities for everyone involved.

Why We're Here

As a once first time adult, a now mom of 5,  homeschooling parent and advocate for teens and young adults, I understand firsthand how overwhelming the transition to adulthood can be–for both teens and those supporting them.

My own experience inspired me to write The First Time Adult, a book designed to be a roadmap for young people preparing for independence. But I quickly realized that teens weren’t the only ones navigating this challenging stage–parents and educators also needed guidance.

From that realization, The A.D.U.L.T. Readiness Pathway, Across The Bridge, and Beyond The Diploma was born as an extension of the book, offering practical advice, resources, and tools to make ‘adulting’ feel less intimidating and more achievable for everyone involved.
